DeviQA and ChargeAfter: Payments test automation case analysed

Verdict: what is checkable

The evidence grade (this site's label for how a case is sourced: primary with client or press confirmation, secondary when vendor-hosted only.) is secondary: the only source is the vendor's own page; of 14 metrics, 0 are verifiable yes, 14 partial and 0 no. [ev-0907]

Where the source names each system is quoted or summarised from the case page. [ev-0907]

Problem as stated

ChargeAfter connects consumers, merchants and lenders so shoppers can compare financing offers at online and in-store checkout. Before DeviQA joined, a regression run took two weeks and API testing was manual. There was no UI or API automation, no automated smoke or pull-request tests and no dedicated test environment. There were also no per-environment pipelines and no standard test case design. DeviQA was asked to build UI and API automation from scratch. [ev-0907]

No tests ran automatically after developers submitted pull requests (quoted from the source)

What the case does not say

  • Measurement method.
  • Duration over which the metric held.
  • Cost.
  • What was out of scope.

Reading notes for a buyer

This case speaks to the scenario “Payments and PCI scope” and feeds dimension D4 (Test automation evidence) of the methodology. A question to put to DeviQA:

Did the automated suites cover lender offer and checkout flows end to end, and was any PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard: the security rules for any business that stores, processes or transmits card data.) scope part of the work? [ev-0907]
